Tim Robinson worked for C.A.R.E. – Cleaning and Restoration Experts in Cortez for six years when his boss, the owner, decided to retire and move to Phoenix. Tim contacted SBDC for guidance concerning the purchase agreement. “Purchasing an existing business can be tricky. I wanted to look at the books and determine if the purchase price was fair and indicative of the businesses potential,” Tim explained.
“SBDC Consultant helped me review the purchase agreement and referred me to a lawyer to also look it over. We exchanged numerous emails and phone calls as I had questions moving forward.”
His SBDC Consultant also referred the couple to a CPA to answer their questions about QuickBooks. Priscilla, Tim’s wife, wanted to use the newer, on-line version of QuickBooks that not many were familiar with at the time.
Priscilla runs the office while Tim handles details out in the field. The couple offers many services but their most popular are: Carpet cleaning and janitorial services, mold remediation and water damage clean up. Since the Robinson’s purchased the business in January of 2015, they have seen 10% overall growth. Tim attributes most of that to diversifying their services. He explains, “The majority of our growth is due to growth in remodeling projects. Last year started out with a 3 story, 4 bedroom house that got flooded. After removing the water, we had to basically gut the house and do a complete remodel.” Additionally, Priscilla explains, “We have actually scaled the business to run leaner and more efficiently, so that has helped our bottom line as well.” Tim really enjoys the diversity the business offers, “We never see the same thing twice,” he explains. On the cleaning jobs, he loves seeing the before and after where, “you can really see that you’ve done something.” C.A.R.E, currently has nine employees and 90% of the products they use are green and bio-degradable.
