Circle K Ranch has been co-owned by Cindy Brannon and her parents, Allen and Joan Cannon for 32 years. The name Circle K came from the King family who built the ranch in the 1940’s.

The Guest Ranch offers outfitting for Elk and Mule Deer hunting in the fall. They have numerous housing options for groups large and small with optional meal plans. The cabins, hotel rooms and lodge rooms, combined with the bunk house, can accommodate up to 225 people for a wedding, family reunion or gathering.

Cindy learned about the SBDC in the Cortez Chamber of Commerce newsletter and contacted the state director to get some help with Quickbooks. She also wanted to discuss retirement planning for her parents. “I was looking for insight regarding the future of the business”.
The SBDC state director assisted her in these areas and then connected her to an advisor for help with QuickBooks
The SBDC advisor looked at their existing bookkeeping system and “found some holes in it”, Cindy explains. “Our advisor provided help and direction in how to shore up the holes.” The Ranch now uses Quickbooks, which is also the system their accountant uses, so the financial processes are streamlined.

Our SBDC advisor then referred Cindy to his wife, Marcy, owner of Mtech – Your Digital Shepherd. Marcy provided expertise on marketing issues that included suggestions for integrating their web site with Facebook and other social media. Marcy helped them change the website to an easy to modify WordPress site and offered suggestions for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). “The suggestions were very helpful.”

Cindy enjoys running the ranch and explained that in its heyday, it was the social center of Rico. Rico was a booming mining town in the 1940’s and the ranch had a restaurant, bar and dance hall in the main lodge.
